Description
This eight-week face-to-face support at our New York City location will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, beginning May 20. This support group is for lesbians, bisexual women and transgender (LBT) cancer survivors who are 30 or over. This group is a partnership between CancerCare, SAGE and the Lesbian Cancer Initiative.
The first hour will provide psychosocial support focused on:
- cancer’s broad impact
- navigating treatment decisions
- managing the emotions involved
- cancer’s effect on sexuality, self-image and relationships
The second hour will provide weekly wellness and educational workshops. Potential topics include:
- body/mind practices (yoga, qi gong, meditation)
- cooking
- legal resources
- creative expressions (art, writing)
- sexuality after diagnosis
- herbs and supplements
- integrating exercise
The Lesbian Cancer Initiative of New York City’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center offers a continuum of cancer-related services to lesbians, bisexual women, transgender and gender non-conforming people, women who partner with women, caregivers, partners and loved ones.
SAGE (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders) is the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults. SAGE houses an innovative senior center for LGBT older adults that offers a range of health management and other programs, including support groups, case management, caregiving support, and friendly visiting.
