CancerCare’s Walk for Hope Inspires the Community and Raises Over $100,000
On November 17, over 200 people participated in a family-friendly 5K walk at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course, in Woodbury, NY, to honor their loved ones and raise funds to support CancerCare. Thanks to the incredible turnout of the community, the initial fundraising goal was surpassed and over $100,000 was raised to support the organization’s free emotional, practical and financial services!
Formerly the Lung Cancer Walk for Hope, this year, the organization’s annual walk has officially become the “Walk for Hope” to include people affected by any cancer diagnosis, including patients, survivors, caregivers and those honoring the memory of their loved ones.
Victoria Puzo, LCSW, CancerCare’s Support Group Program Director, shared that “This year’s walk was a testament to how our community can come together for a common goal. We saw so many familiar faces who join us every year and many new faces who we were happy to welcome to their first walk. It’s so heartwarming to see people come together, to celebrate crossing the finish line and share their stories of hope in the face of cancer.”
Highlights from the day’s events included a touching rendition of the national anthem, sung by the Kellenberg High School Chorus, face painting, hot chocolate and cookies courtesy of Panera and a fun walk warmup led by Dafna Soltes Stein from Moving for Life.
Thank you to the generous support from participants, volunteers, sponsors and partners for making this year’s walk a success! Special thanks to Kim Pellizzi, CancerCare’s Walk for Hope Chair, The Butterflies, Gordon Brothers, Satty, Levine & Ciacco, CPAs, PC, Phyllis Sobel, New York Institute of Beauty and NYU Langone's Perlmutter Cancer Center.
