CancerCare^® Announces Walk, Wag & Run Event, 1st Annual Human and K-9 Walk/Run

CancerCare is excited to announce their 1st annual Walk, Wag & Run Event will take place at Overpeck County Park, 199 Challenger Road in Leonia, N.J., on Sunday, September 15, 2019. This family-friendly 5K event will raise critical funds for and awareness about CancerCare’s free, professional services available to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis.

This year, we invite you to bring your dog to join in the festivities, in honor of one of CancerCare's new programs, the Pet Assistance and Wellness (PAW) Program. Once launched, CancerCare’s PAW Program will help people undergoing cancer treatment keep and care for their dogs and cats.

Walkers and runners of all levels and ages as well as teams are welcome to participate. In celebration of this event, each team is encouraged to gather friends, family and co-workers to walk or run. Registration and check-in begin at 7:45 a.m. The 5K event kicks off at 9:00 a.m., with a children’s Fun Run to follow at 10:30 a.m. The course is USATF sanctioned and certified. “Without CancerCare and all of the help I have received emotionally and mentally to help fix my daily life, there is no way I would be where I am today or even standing in front of you,” said Kevin Bombace, a cancer survivor and CancerCare client. “To that I say thank you CancerCare, you truly showed me how much you do care!”

“We’d like to thank our sponsors, our volunteers and all the runners for their contributions year after year,” said Kathy Nugent, director of regional programs at CancerCare. “For 31 years, we’ve been holding a New Jersey Walk/Run, but this is our first Walk, Wag & Run event with pets and we couldn’t be more excited!”

Entry fees are a $40 minimum donation per adult with 1 dog, $35 minimum donation per adult without a dog (13 and older; $32 for USATF-NJ members), $20 minimum donation per child (12 and under) and $10 per child for the fun run only. All participants who pre-register will receive a t-shirt. Race awards will be given to the top finishers, top individual and team fundraisers, and all fun run participants. All those who are participating as teams, please create your own team sign and be eligible for the team sign contest. The event will take place rain or shine.
