CancerCare Clients Treated to Special Day of Pampering
*New York, New York, May 30, 2008 *--More than three dozen women in New York City undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments for cancer treated themselves to a day of personal pampering recently, as participants in CancerCare's "Day of Beauty" workshop.
Sponsored by beauty company and long-time CancerCare supporter, Tweezerman International, the day-long event, which took place at Pangea Salon in New York's upscale Chelsea neighborhood, featured a range of complimentary salon services including natural manicures, eyebrow shaping and makeup consultation, provided by volunteer estheticians and professional beauty experts.
The invitation-only event provided women clients of CancerCare with tips on how to feel and look their best during treatment. Several CancerCare oncology social workers were also on hand throughout the day to facilitate discussions about self-esteem, treatment-related changes in appearance, and other issues affecting women with cancer.
The women wrapped up the day with radiant smiles, new looks and a gift bag full of goodies, compliments of Tweezerman.
"Thank you. It's so nice to feel better and see my eyes open up. What joy you have given us today and I really appreciate it," wrote one participant in the event guestbook. Her words were echoed by another participant:
"It is so wonderful that people care like this to think of those who are going through this [experience with cancer]. You have made such a difference!"
CancerCare will host additional Day of Beauty workshops throughout the year, made possible by the generosity of Tweezerman.
