Fall Is in the Air! Young Adults Build Connections and Carve Pumpkins with CancerCare and Stupid Cancer
Last month, young adults affected by cancer met at the Peer Space Studio in Manhattan at an event hosted by CancerCare and Stupid Cancer.
Young adults who are affected by cancer can face challenges such as isolation and often manage multiple priorities, including treatments, social lives and future goals. The participants had the opportunity to form connections with others experiencing similar challenges while expressing themselves creatively. “I liked meeting other adolescent and young adult patients and survivors,” shared one attendee. “It was a nice activity to do as well.”
“We saw a common theme of young adults wanting to meet other young adults navigating a cancer diagnosis through in-person events and at events that are not just focused on discussing cancer,” said Hayley Feuchs, LMSW, CancerCare’s Young Adult Program Coordinator. “It’s important to bring this community together so they can feel less isolated in their experiences.”
We are grateful for Stupid Cancer’s partnership and collaboration, which has helped CancerCare to reach more young adults looking for spaces that specifically address their community. We would also like to thank all the participants as well as CancerCare social workers and Stupid Cancer staff for contributing to this celebratory and autumnal evening!
