CancerCare Honors Staff for Social Work Month
Our social workers are what set CancerCare apart from other support organizations, and each year during National Social Work Month, we highlight the people behind our clinical programs and services.
For the month of March, we will be celebrating the oncology social workers who answered 69,856 calls to our Hopeline last fiscal year alone. CancerCare's social services team accomplishes a remarkable volume of work on any given day. In addition to answering calls on our Hopeline, they facilitate virtual and online support groups; offer individual counseling and case management; organize and host community programs; write articles; conduct presentations in the community—and still find time to pursue their passion projects, like our podcast, Cancer Out Loud.
"I am much happier. I feel seen. I can share things with my social worker that I cannot with anyone else," said one individual counseling client.
"I felt enormous relief at being able to share my grief and felt that my social worker acknowledged my pain and was very helpful,” shared another client.
"I can spell out my fears and feel supported," said a support group member.
Throughout the month, please stay tuned on Instagram for upcoming videos featuring our social workers this month. You can also read more about our social workers at www.cancercare.org/social-workers.
