A dynamic team of CancerCare’s oncology social workers are presenting this year at the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) Annual Conference.

Joyce came to CancerCare after experiencing the loss of her husband to cancer. She shares,“The support [CancerCare] provided saved my life, and I hope to be able to spread awareness so that others may be impacted in the same way that I have.” Putting her gratitude into action, Joyce has become a passionate advocate for CancerCare, and is now being honored at CancerCare’s 2016 Festival of Hope Gala.

On Tuesday, March 29th, CancerCare for Kids had the pleasure of partnering with Kids Kicking Cancer to offer a free martial arts class to children affected by cancer. The event gave children the opportunity to connect with peers while increasing confidence and coping skills in a fun and relaxing atmosphere.

Alex came to CancerCare for support after her friend Jodie passed away from an aggressive form of breast cancer. Jodie had also used CancerCare’s services while she was in hospice. “One of the things that was important to both of us was that CancerCare gave immediate support for people with cancer,” Alex says.

Now, Alex is riding with Team CancerCare at the TD Five Boro Bike Tour to raise funds for others who turn to CancerCare for help.

A cancer diagnosis is a very difficult time for many families financially, and costs such as transportation often prevent people from receiving proper treatment. We are therefore pleased to share that CancerCare has received renewed funding from Celgene Corporation for “CancerCare Get You There,” one of our transportation assistance programs.

The CancerCare Thrift Shop has been a fixture of Manhattan’s Upper East Side for nearly 40 years. This year, McCann Healthcare generously stepped forward help us extend our reach, creating a marketing campaign that highlights three key aspects of the thrift shop’s philanthropic mission, fashionable merchandise and connection to New York City.

Cancer is an expensive condition, and patients face financial concerns that impact many aspects of their lives. Today, we are proud to announce a new financial assistance program for adults and children with cancer who live in New York’s Mid-Hudson Valley region. CancerCare is happy to announce new co-payment assistance funds for people diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow, through the CancerCare Co-Payment Assistance Foundation. The CancerCare Co-Payment Assistance Foundation (CCAF) is dedicated to helping people with cancer meet what otherwise are significant co-payment obligations for cancer treatment.

CancerCare now has national grants, generously funded by Bristol-Myers Squibb, available for people diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer or multiple myeloma. The funds will cover travel expenses associated with treatment for those who are eligible.

CancerCare was honored to be the recipient of The Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) Association of New York’s 2015 Holiday Party & Toy Drive. The PBK members and their guests were very generous in donating funds and gifts for children and teens affected by cancer.
